Milo and the Door Under the Bed

Milo was a curious child who liked to explore. He asked many questions and enjoyed looking closely at small things. He liked bugs, toy bricks, and secret corners. Milo believed that the world was full of surprises, even if grown-ups said it was not.

Every night, before going to sleep, Milo checked under his bed. He was not afraid. He was just curious. He once found an old toy car there. Another time, he found a missing sock. But one night, he found something very different.

As Milo climbed into bed, he heard a soft sound.
Tap. Tap.
Milo sat up and listened.
The sound came again.
Tap.
It was coming from under his bed.

Milo slowly leaned over and looked down. At first, he saw nothing strange. Then he noticed a small glow near the wall.

There was a tiny door under his bed.

It was no bigger than Milo’s hand. The door was made of shiny wood, and it glowed with a warm, golden light. Milo blinked and rubbed his eyes.

“This can’t be real,” he said.

But the door stayed right where it was.

Milo reached out and touched it. The door felt warm, not hot. As soon as his finger touched it, the door slowly opened.

A bright light shone out.

Before Milo could move back, he felt a gentle pull. The room around him began to spin.

Milo felt himself getting smaller.
Smaller and smaller.

When the spinning stopped, Milo opened his eyes.

He was no longer in his bedroom.

Milo was standing in a wide green field. Tall grass rose above his head like trees. The sky looked closer, and the clouds seemed bigger.

“Where am I?” Milo asked.

Suddenly, a small shadow flew past him. Milo looked up and saw a tiny dragon hovering in the air. The dragon was very small, no bigger than Milo’s thumb. It had green scales and bright eyes.

“You came,” the dragon said.

Milo stepped back.

“You can talk?” Milo asked.

“Yes,” the dragon replied. “My name is Spark.”

Before Milo could ask more questions, he heard footsteps. Small mice dressed in shiny armor walked toward him. They carried tiny swords and shields. One mouse stepped forward and bowed.

“I am Sir Whisker,” the mouse said. “Welcome to Smallen.”

Milo looked around in wonder.

“Smallen?” he asked.

“Yes,” Sir Whisker said. “A hidden land for small creatures.”

Milo felt excited but also nervous.

“Why am I here?” he asked.

Spark flew closer.

“Because we need your help,” Spark said.

Sir Whisker led Milo through the land. Milo saw tiny houses made from leaves and wood. He saw bridges made of sticks and rivers that sparkled like silver lines.

“This place is amazing,” Milo said.

“It was happier before,” Sir Whisker said quietly.

They stopped near a hill covered in shadow.

A large dark stone rested on top of the hill. It blocked the sunlight from reaching the land below.

“That stone fell from the sky,” Spark said. “It is too heavy for us to move.”

“Our plants are not growing,” Sir Whisker said. “The dragons are growing weak.”

Milo felt scared.

“I’m not very strong,” he said. “I’m just a kid.”

Sir Whisker smiled kindly.

“Being brave does not mean being big or strong,” he said. “It means trying to help.”

Milo thought for a moment.

“I’ll try,” he said.

The journey to the hill was not easy. Milo had to walk through tall grass and cross narrow streams. The mouse knights stayed close, and Spark lit the way with soft dragon fire.

When they reached the stone, Milo placed his hands on it. It was cold and rough.

“It’s very heavy,” Milo said.

He pushed with all his strength.

The stone did not move.

Milo felt disappointed.

“Try again,” Spark said.

Milo took a deep breath and pushed once more. The stone moved just a little.

“That’s enough,” Sir Whisker said. “Just a little more.”

Milo pushed again. The stone rolled to the side.

Sunlight poured into the land.

The grass began to glow green again. The tiny plants started to grow. The dragons flapped their wings happily.

“You did it,” Spark said.

Milo smiled.

“We did it together,” Milo said.

The light around Milo began to glow again.

“It’s time for you to go home,” Spark said softly.

Milo felt sad.

“I wish I could stay,” he said.

“You will always be part of Smallen,” Sir Whisker said.

The light grew brighter.

Milo felt himself growing bigger.

When he opened his eyes, he was back in his room.

The tiny door under the bed was gone.

But on Milo’s desk lay a small green dragon scale.

Milo smiled.

He knew the adventure was real.

That night, Milo went to sleep feeling brave.

He knew that even small people could do big things.
