The Cloud That Got Lost

High up in the blue sky lived a small, fluffy cloud named Puff.

Puff was not like the other clouds. He was smaller and softer. The other clouds were big and strong. They stayed close together and moved slowly across the sky. Puff liked to float a little away from them. He liked to watch birds fly by and look down at the green fields, houses, and rivers below.

Sometimes Puff wondered what it would feel like to touch the ground.

“I bet it is nice down there,” he often thought.

One morning, the sky was very bright. The sun was warm, and the clouds were drifting calmly. Puff was floating near the edge of the sky, watching a group of birds fly together.

Suddenly, the wind began to blow.

At first, it was just a small breeze. Then it became stronger. The big clouds held onto each other. They stayed together and moved as one.

But Puff was too light.

The wind pushed him away from his friends.

“Wait for me!” Puff called.

The wind blew harder.

Puff tried to float back, but he could not.

“Oh no,” Puff said. “I am going too far.”

The wind gave one strong push, and Puff began to fall.

He did not fall fast. He floated down slowly, like a soft feather. Still, Puff felt scared. He had never been this far from the sky before.

Below him, he saw rooftops, trees, and roads. He saw people walking and children playing.

“I am lost,” Puff said quietly.

After a while, Puff landed gently near a small village. He rested on the grass beside a narrow road. He felt strange being on the ground. Everything looked so big from here.

Puff tried to move, but he could not float up on his own.

Just then, a child named Lily was walking home. She was carrying a small bag and kicking a pebble along the road. When she looked up, she saw something white and round on the grass.

She stopped walking.

“What is that?” Lily said.

She stepped closer and opened her eyes wide.

“It looks like a cloud,” she said.

Puff heard her voice.

“Yes,” Puff said. “I am a cloud.”

Lily froze for a moment. Then she smiled.

“A talking cloud?” she said. “That is amazing.”

Puff felt a little better.

“I did not mean to come here,” Puff said. “The wind blew me away. I cannot find my way back home.”

Lily sat down beside Puff.

“Don’t worry,” she said. “You are safe here. We will figure something out.”

No one had ever said that to Puff before. He felt warm inside.

“Thank you,” Puff said. “I am scared. I miss my cloud friends.”

Lily looked up at the sky. The clouds were far above them.

“They are very high,” she said. “But we can ask for help.”

Lily stood up and looked around. A brown bird was sitting on a fence nearby.

“Hello,” Lily called. “Can you help us?”

The bird tilted its head and chirped.

Puff explained his problem. The bird listened carefully.

“I will try,” the bird said. “I can talk to the wind.”

The bird flew into the sky. Puff and Lily waited.

While they waited, Lily talked to Puff.

“What is it like living in the sky?” she asked.

“It is quiet,” Puff said. “We float together and watch the world. Sometimes we make rain. Sometimes we make shade.”

“That sounds nice,” Lily said.

“I like the ground too,” Puff said. “But I belong in the sky.”

After a short time, the air around them began to move. The wind returned, but it was gentle this time.

“Hello, little cloud,” the wind said. “I am sorry I pushed you away.”

“It’s okay,” Puff said. “I just want to go home.”

“I will help you,” the wind said.

The wind slowly wrapped around Puff and lifted him up.

“Good luck,” Lily said, waving.

“Thank you for helping me,” Puff said. “I will never forget you.”

Up, up, up Puff floated. He felt lighter and happier. The ground grew smaller. Soon, he saw his cloud friends waiting for him.

“Puff!” they called. “You’re back!”

Puff floated beside them.

“I got lost,” Puff said. “But a kind child helped me.”

The clouds smiled.

Down below, Lily looked up at the sky. She felt happy knowing Puff was safe.

That night, Lily saw a small cloud floating above her house. It looked like it was waving.

She waved back.
