The Case of the Missing Class Pet

It was a bright Monday morning at Sunnydale Elementary School. The sun shone through the big windows of Mrs. Adams’ classroom. Children were laughing and putting their bags away. Everyone was excited for the day. But something was very strange.

Lily, Tom, and Sara, three best friends, noticed right away. The class hamster, Mr. Nibbles, was missing from his cage!

“Where is he?” Lily asked, her eyes wide.

Tom ran to the cage. “He’s gone! The door is closed, but he’s not inside!”

Sara looked around. “Maybe he’s hiding?” she said softly.

Mrs. Adams came over. “Don’t worry, children. Let’s see if we can find him. Stay calm and be gentle.”

The three friends decided to become little detectives. They loved solving mysteries, and this one sounded fun—and important!

They started by looking at the hamster cage. Lily noticed tiny hamster footprints on the floor. They led away from the cage toward the reading corner.

“Look at these little prints!” Lily whispered. “He must have crawled out!”

Tom followed the trail. “And look here,” he said. “There are bits of bedding scattered across the floor.”

Sara smiled. “He’s been on a little adventure,” she said.

The friends carefully followed the footprints. They went past the bookshelves. They peeked under the reading carpet. They checked near the classroom door. But Mr. Nibbles was not there.

“Where could he be?” Tom asked, scratching his head.

Lily thought hard. “Hamsters like small, cozy places. Maybe he found a hiding spot.”

Sara nodded. “Let’s check behind the teacher’s desk.”

The three friends tiptoed to Mrs. Adams’ desk. They looked carefully underneath. Suddenly, Lily spotted something moving.

“There! Look!” she whispered.

A tiny, furry nose peeked out from behind a shoebox. Mr. Nibbles had squeezed himself into the box!

“He’s so cute!” Sara exclaimed softly. “He must have been exploring.”

Tom giggled. “I can’t believe he went on his own little adventure.”

The friends carefully reached for the shoebox. Mr. Nibbles sniffed their fingers and gave a tiny squeak. He seemed happy and safe.

Lily lifted him gently and placed him back in his cage. Tom refilled his water bottle, and Sara added some fresh food. Mr. Nibbles hopped onto his wheel, spinning happily as if nothing had happened.

Mrs. Adams smiled. “You three did a wonderful job. You stayed calm, followed clues, and worked together.”

Lily, Tom, and Sara beamed with pride. They had solved the mystery of the missing class pet.

The children were curious about how Mr. Nibbles managed to escape. Lily noticed that one of the cage doors was not fully closed the night before.

“I bet he nudged it open,” she said.

“And went looking for fun,” Tom added, laughing.

Sara giggled. “He probably wanted a little adventure before breakfast.”

The children spent the rest of the morning watching Mr. Nibbles. He ran on his wheel, nibbled on a tiny carrot, and climbed over the bedding. He seemed very happy to be back.

During storytime, the three friends told the class about their little detective work. Everyone listened carefully.

“Mr. Nibbles went exploring,” Lily said. “But we found him and brought him back safely.”

“And he’s okay!” Sara added.

Tom laughed. “He even left us a trail of tiny footprints as clues.”

The classroom filled with laughter. Children loved imagining the tiny hamster having a secret adventure while they slept.

That afternoon, Mrs. Adams reminded everyone, “It’s important to be gentle and careful with our class pets. And sometimes, little mysteries happen.”

Lily, Tom, and Sara nodded. They had learned that even small adventures could be solved with observation, teamwork, and patience.

From that day on, Mr. Nibbles’ little adventure became a favorite story in the class. Every time someone looked at the hamster, they remembered the missing pet mystery.

The friends continued to be careful and observant, always ready for new mysteries in the classroom. They knew that even small clues could lead to big discoveries.

And as for Mr. Nibbles, he seemed content with his little adventure behind the teacher’s desk. But the children made sure his cage was always securely closed from then on.

That evening, Lily, Tom, and Sara smiled as they walked home together.

“We solved another mystery,” Lily said proudly.

“And safely,” Sara added.

“And it was funny too!” Tom laughed.

From that day on, the three friends were known as the little detectives of Sunnydale Elementary. They always paid attention to tiny details, helped each other, and solved mysteries together.
