Puff was a very new baby dragon.

He was only four days old.

He had round pink cheeks. He had tiny green wings. He had the softest little belly in all of Dragon World.

And he had never, ever sneezed before.

Story

Until today.

It started with a tickle.

A tiny little tickle. Right inside Puff's nose.

Puff wiggled his nose. The tickle was still there.

He scrunched up his face. The tickle got bigger.

He squeezed his eyes shut tight. The tickle got even bigger.

Story

His whole little body shook.

His tiny wings spread wide.

His round tummy puffed up like a balloon.

And then

AAAA-CHOOOO! 🔥

Story

A big bright ball of fire shot out of Puff's nose!

It zoomed across the room.

It hit Papa's favourite hat.

The hat turned into a little pile of ash.

Puff stared at it. His eyes went very wide.

Story

Puff said in a tiny voice, "Oh."

Papa Dragon walked in. He looked at Puff. He looked at the ash. He looked back at Puff.

Papa said slowly, "Was that... my hat?"

Puff looked at his feet and said, "I sneezed."

Papa blinked, "You sneezed fire."

Puff nodded very small, "I did not know that would happen."

Papa Dragon was quiet for a moment.

Then he did something Puff did not expect.

He laughed.

A big, deep, rumbly dragon laugh that shook the whole house.

Papa said, "Puff! You sneezed fire! Your very first fire! That is wonderful!"

Puff looked up, "But... your hat, Papa."

Papa waved his hand, "That old hat? I have ten more hats! But your first fire sneeze? That only happens once!"

Story

Puff still felt bad about the hat.

Even if Papa was not angry, it was still Papa's hat.

Puff said quietly, "I am sorry, Papa. I am sorry about your hat."

Papa knelt down so his big face was right next to Puff's tiny face.

Papa said gently, "Thank you for saying sorry, Puff. That was a very good thing to do. And now I want you to know something important."

Puff asked, "What, Papa?"

Papa smiled, "Every dragon sneezes fire for the first time. Every single one. Even me. Even your grandpa. It is part of being a dragon."

Story

Puff thought about that. Even Papa had sneezed fire for the first time once.

Puff asked, "What did YOU burn, Papa?"

Papa's big face turned a little bit red.

Papa mumbled, "Grandma's birthday cake."

Puff burst out laughing. He laughed so hard he fell over on his bottom.

Puff giggled, "You burned the birthday CAKE?"

Papa laughed too, "The whole cake. Gone. In one sneeze."

They both laughed together for a long time.

Story

Then Mama came in. She had been in the garden. She saw the pile of ash.

Mama said, "Puff. Was there a sneeze?"

Puff nodded, "My first sneeze, Mama. I sneezed fire. By accident."

Mama clapped her hands, "Oh! Your first fire sneeze! Let me see your nose!"

She held Puff's little face in her warm hands and looked at his nose carefully.

Mama nodded proudly, "A very good nose. Very strong fire. Well done, Puff."

Puff said, "But I burned Papa's hat."

Mama said, "Did you say sorry?"

Puff said, "Yes, Mama."

Mama smiled, "Then you did everything right."

Story

That afternoon, Puff's friend Tiny came over to play.

Tiny was also a baby dragon small and yellow with a big fluffy tail.

Tiny said, "I heard you sneezed FIRE today!"

Puff said proudly, "I did! My very first fire sneeze!"

Tiny said, "I have not sneezed fire yet. I am waiting and waiting!"

Puff said wisely, "It comes when it comes. You cannot plan it. The sneeze just... happens."

Story

Tiny nodded seriously, like this was very important information.

They played together all afternoon.

And three times, Puff felt the tickle come back in his nose.

Three times, he scrunched up his face.

Three times, he warned everyone nearby.

Puff shouted, "SNEEZE COMING! MOVE THE THINGS!"

Story

And three times, everyone laughed and moved away quickly.

And three times ACHOO! a little ball of fire shot through the air.

The third one was the best. It was big and bright and went all the way across the garden.

It landed in a puddle with a loud HISSSSSS.

Story

Everyone cheered.

Tiny yelled, "That was the BEST sneeze I have ever seen!"

Puff stood up tall and said, "I am a fire sneezer!"

He said it like it was the most wonderful thing in the world.

Because to him, it was.

Story

That night, Mama tucked Puff into his warm bed.

Puff said, "Mama? I am glad I sneezed today. Even the part where I burned the hat."

Mama asked, "Why is that?"

Puff said, "Because I learned something. Accidents happen. But you say sorry. And then you laugh. And then everything is okay."

Mama kissed his little forehead.

Mama whispered, "That, my dear Puff, is one of the most important things a dragon can know."

Story

Puff smiled. He closed his eyes.

His tiny nose twitched once.

Just a little.

But no sneeze came.

Not tonight.

Tonight, the little fire sneezer was fast asleep.

~ The End ~

Moral of the Story

Accidents happen to everyone, even dragons! What matters most is not the accident itself, but what we do after it.

Saying sorry is brave and kind. And learning to laugh at our little mistakes instead of feeling ashamed helps us grow.

Accidents are not the end of the world, they are part of learning.

Saying sorry is one of the kindest things you can do.

It is okay to laugh at yourself with love, not with shame.

From the LitsLib Dragon World

Hello, wonderful parents and little readers!

Young children spill things, break things, bump into things and sometimes feel terrible about it. This story is for every little one who has had an 'oops' moment and needed to know: it is okay.

Puff's story carries two beautiful lessons in one: the grace of saying sorry, and the joy of laughing gently at ourselves. Papa's reaction choosing laughter over anger models something powerful for children: that the people who love us respond to our mistakes with warmth, not shame.

We hope this story makes your little one feel safe to say 'oops, sorry!' without fear and to giggle about it after.

Here are a few things you can try with your child after reading:

Sneeze & Blow: Pretend to sneeze together and blow out a candle flame your very own 'fire sneeze'!

Talk It Out: Ask: 'Have you ever had an accident? What did you do after?' Share your own funny story too.

Draw Puff: Draw Puff mid-sneeze with fire coming out. What does the fire look like?

Sorry Practice: Role-play saying sorry for small accidents. Make it feel natural, not scary.

Thank you for reading with your little one today. You are their Papa Dragon and their Mama Dragon the ones who make every 'oops' feel safe.

With warm dragon hugs,
