Cozy was a little baby dragon with yellow scales and a very round tummy.
He had big brown eyes. He had a short wiggly tail. And he had one very, very special thing.

His blankie.
The blankie was blue. Soft, old, and a little bit worn at the edges.
It smelled like warm cookies and dragon dreams.
Cozy took his blankie everywhere.
To breakfast. To the park. To Grandma's house. Even to the bath though Mama always stopped him just in time.

The blankie made Cozy feel safe.
When things were loud, he held the blankie.
When things were scary, he held the blankie.
When he was tired, when he was sad, when he was happy he always had his blankie.
Until one morning it was gone.
Cozy woke up and reached for his blankie.
His hand touched the empty bed.
He sat up fast.
He looked left. He looked right. He looked under the pillow.
No blankie.
"BLANKIE!"

Mama came running in.
Mama said, "Cozy! What happened?"
Cozy said with big round eyes, "My blankie is GONE, Mama! It is LOST!"
Mama looked around and said, "Oh dear. Okay. Let us look together."
They looked under the bed. No blankie.
They looked behind the big chair. No blankie.
They looked in the toy box, under the rug, and behind the bookshelf.
No blankie. No blankie. No blankie.
Cozy's bottom lip began to wobble.
Cozy said in a tiny voice, "Mama. I cannot find it."
Mama held him close and said, "We will keep looking, my love. Think where did you go yesterday?"

Cozy thought very hard.
Yesterday he had gone to the park with Papa. He had played on the swings. He had eaten a big dragon biscuit by the pond.
He had taken his blankie he always took his blankie.

Cozy gasped, "The park! Mama, I had it at the park!"
Mama nodded, "Then that is where we go. Put your shoes on, little one."
They walked to the park together. Cozy held Mama's hand very tight.
His tummy felt wobbly without the blankie. Like something important was missing.

At the park, they looked by the swings. No blankie.
They looked by the big oak tree. No blankie.
They looked by the pond where he had eaten his biscuit.
And there sitting on the bench by the pond was old Mr. Tortoise.
Mr. Tortoise was very slow and very wise. He sat there every single day.
And on his lap folded very neatly was a small blue blanket.

Cozy ran over and said, "My blankie! Mr. Tortoise, that is MY blankie!"
Mr. Tortoise looked down slowly. He looked at the blanket. He looked at Cozy. He smiled his slow, kind smile.
Mr. Tortoise said, "Ah! I found it on the grass yesterday evening. I kept it safe for whoever it belonged to. I knew they would come back for it."
Cozy took the blankie in both arms and hugged it tight. Very, very tight.
It still smelled like warm cookies and dragon dreams.
It still felt soft and safe.

Cozy said, "Thank you, Mr. Tortoise. Thank you so much."
Mr. Tortoise nodded slowly, "Take good care of it, little dragon. The things we love they deserve to be looked after."
On the way home, Cozy held the blankie against his chest.
His tummy felt warm again. The wobbly feeling was gone.

Mama asked, "Better now?"
Cozy nodded, "Much better. But Mama I was so scared when it was gone. My tummy felt all empty."
Mama said gently, "That feeling has a name, Cozy. It is called missing something. It means you love it very much."
Cozy thought about that.
Missing something meant you loved it.
That made the wobbly feeling feel a little bit beautiful.

Cozy said, "Mama? What if I lose it again one day?"
Mama was quiet for a moment. Then she said something Cozy would never forget.
Mama said, "Then we will look for it again. And while we look I will be right here. I am your blankie too, you know. I always make you feel safe."
Cozy looked up at Mama.
He looked at her warm smile. Her big soft wings. Her kind brown eyes just like his.
He reached up and took her hand.
Cozy said quietly, "You do, Mama. You really do."

That night, Cozy went to bed with his blankie tucked right under his chin.
He breathed in its smell warm cookies and dragon dreams.
He closed his eyes.
And just before he fell asleep, he thought about something.
The blankie was wonderful. It was soft and safe and smelled exactly right.

But Mama's hand warm and strong and always there that was the best safe feeling of all.
He smiled in his sleep.
And held both his blankie and Mama's hand at the same time.
~ The End ~
It is okay to have something special that makes you feel safe a blanket, a toy, a stuffed animal. These things carry our comfort and our love.
But the deepest safety of all comes from the people who love us. They are always there even when everything else feels lost.
It is okay to love something that makes you feel safe and cozy.
When we lose something we love, it is okay to feel sad that sadness is just love.
The people who love us are our biggest comfort they never get lost.
Let's see how much you remember!
1. What is the baby dragon's name in this story?

4. Where did Cozy take his blankie?
5. Where had Cozy gone the day before the blankie went missing?
6. Who had found and kept Cozy's blankie safe?
7. Where exactly did Cozy find his blankie?

Hello, wonderful parents and little readers!
Many children between ages 2 and 6 have a comfort object a blanket, a stuffed bear, a worn-out toy. Child development experts call these 'transitional objects,' and they play a beautiful role: they help children feel secure when the big world feels too big.
Cozy's story honours that comfort object it does not rush a child away from it. Instead, it gently adds something new: the realisation that the love of a parent is the deepest comfort of all. One does not replace the other. Both can be true at the same time.
We also loved writing Mr. Tortoise a quiet, trustworthy community figure who looks after what others have lost. Children benefit from knowing that the world has kind people in it.
Here are a few things you can try with your child after reading:
Name It: Ask your child to tell you about their favourite comfort object. What makes it special? Does it have a name?
Talk It Out: Ask: 'What makes you feel safe and cozy?' Let their answer surprise you.
Comfort Hug: After reading, give the biggest dragon hug. Tell them: 'I am always here. Even when things get lost, I never do.'
Draw Your Safe Place: Ask your child to draw the place and people that make them feel most cozy and safe.
Thank you for reading with your little one today. You are their warm cookies and dragon dreams. You are their blankie and you never get lost.
With warm dragon hugs,
The LitsLib Dragon World
