At the edge of a soft rolling meadow, in a warm little burrow under an old rose bush, there lived a fluffy little rabbit named Ruffle.
Ruffle had long floppy ears. He had a tiny cotton tail. And he had soft brown fur with the tiniest white patch on his nose.

Ruffle loved to hop. He loved to nibble. And most of all, he loved to run through the LAVENDER FIELD!
Every day, Ruffle would say, "Hop, hop, sniff! Lavender is the best!"
One evening, the sun rolled down slowly behind the meadow hills. The sky turned soft peach. Then rose pink. Then dark, dark blue.
Ruffle bounced back to his cozy burrow. But he was NOT sleepy. Not one tiny bit.
He had hopped all day. He had nibbled all day. He had rolled in the grass all day. Now his little heart was too excited to rest.
"I can't sleep, Nana Poppy!" said Ruffle. His floppy ears wiggled.
Nana Poppy was Ruffle's wise grandma bunny. She had soft grey fur and gentle, kind eyes.
She looked at Ruffle. She smiled a warm bunny smile.
"Oh, sweet little Ruffle," she said. "I know just what to do."
She took his little paw in hers.
"Come with me, my love. Let's hop to the lavender field."
Ruffle's ears perked up. "At bedtime?"
"At bedtime," said Nana Poppy. "The lavender has a special secret for sleepy bunnies like you."
Together, they hopped out into the twilight.
Hop, hop, hop.
The meadow was quiet. The moon was rising, big and silver. The stars were beginning to twinkle.
Soon, they reached the lavender field.
Oh, it was BEAUTIFUL.
Rows and rows of soft purple flowers stretched under the moonlight. They swayed gently in the evening breeze. Sway, sway, sway.
And the SMELL!
Ruffle sniffed. Sniff, sniff.
"Mmmm," said Ruffle. "It smells so soft. Like clouds. Like pillows. Like a warm hug."
Nana Poppy smiled. "That is the secret, little Ruffle. Lavender is a sleep-flower."
"A sleep-flower?" whispered Ruffle.
"Yes," said Nana Poppy. "Its soft purple smell floats into your nose... then into your heart... and slowly, slowly, it whispers to your busy little body — 'Time to rest.'"
Ruffle sniffed again. Sniff, sniff.
His floppy ears started to feel a little heavier.
"Oh!" said Ruffle. "It really is working!"
"Now come," said Nana Poppy. "Let's lay down in the softest spot."
She led Ruffle to a cozy circle of lavender flowers. The petals were soft as feathers.
Ruffle nestled in. His fluffy fur pressed against the sweet purple blooms.
Sniff, sniff.
The lavender smelled sweeter than honey. Softer than a lullaby.
Above him, the moon shined kindly. The stars twinkled just for him.
"Now close your sleepy eyes," whispered Nana Poppy. "And listen."
Ruffle closed one eye. Then the other.
Sway, sway. The lavender rocked gently in the breeze.
Whisper, whisper. The petals sang a soft flower song.
Sniff, sniff. The dreamy purple smell filled Ruffle's little nose.
Nana Poppy curled her warm grey paws around him — like a cozy bunny blanket.
"Goodnight, little Ruffle," she whispered.
"Goodnight, Nana," yawned Ruffle. "Goodnight, lavender. Goodnight, moon."
His little heart slowed down. His busy paws relaxed. His floppy ears drooped softly.
The lavender kept swaying. The stars kept twinkling. The moon kept smiling down.
And soon, little Ruffle the Rabbit was fast, fast asleep, in the middle of the magical lavender field.
Sweet dreams, Ruffle. Sweet dreams, little rabbit.
